I know in January everyone is thinking about getting organized. As you take down the tree, try to find places for new presents, and deal with all of the messes of holiday fun, getting your house more clean and organized is likely a goal you have set for the year. For me personally, cleaning is a little bit of a struggle. I love organizing, renewing a space, and coming up with better ways to do things, but keeping up with the day to day cleaning is tough. Often my whole house is messy except for one random room which is perfect.
This month’s Michael’s Maker’s challenge is to share some organizational ideas with you all. And as someone who hates cleaning, I’ve worked hard in the past to find ways to be creative and do fun activities and things with the kids while minimizing the clean up afterwards. One thing that has helped me so much keeping my crafts and props and all organized is small scale storage. It’s so easy to just dump all of the smaller things in with larger things or all together, but I’ve found that if your smaller items are easy to find, access, and use, it saves a ton of time when you’re working on projects.
Michael’s has so many different storage options than can help when you’re getting organized. I actually bought a large rolling cart and I’ve already started filling it with my most frequently used photo props and tools in the little drawers and keeping it next to the table where I take pictures. Right now, I just have a drawer for crayons, scissors, and paper. Michael’s also has a cool new colorful line called Cre8ted Space that is 50% this week. I picked up some of these colorful wooden wall shelves and I’m planning on stacking them on my desk and using them for projects in progress, or as a place to gather items for an upcoming shot.
However, my very favorite little containers at Michael’s are found in the bead section. You may have seen them in this post where I made beaded wrap bracelets. Since I store each kind of bead in its own little container, it’s easy to find and use the exact bead I want.
Plus, you can use those little containers for any small things you may have. They come in a variety of sizes, and you could use them to store things like sprinkles, different types of confetti, pieces to larger parts, or small items that are important and you don’t want to get lost. Since I use sprinkles a lot for the fun pictures I take on Instagram, I store different sprinkles in the little containers. It makes it so much easier for me to make a picture (and clean it up afterwards). And the little containers are just so cute!
What about you? Do you enjoy cleaning and organizing? Do you have any tips for storing things creatively and getting organized?
