If you’re a new blogger just starting out, link parties are a fantastic way to grow your blog, make new connections, and be inspired. When I first started Lines Across, I would spend about 20 minutes every night linking up all of my latest projects to as many crafty link parties as possible, and commenting on other posts that caught my attention. I still enter a few link parties each week, but not nearly as much as I did at first.
There are a lot of different ways that link parties help grow your blog:
1. It gets your name, your blog, and your projects out there. Each time you link up, you have the chance to get new followers, pins, and comments. If you keep linking to the same parties each week, other bloggers will remember you and your blog.
2. Getting featured! Not only is getting featured at a big blog exciting, but it’s also a great way to get more traffic. Features get a lot of clicks, PLUS the link back to your site from another site (especially a well established one) is a big boost to your SEO, and it will help your blog show up higher in search engines. Also, getting featured is a great way to build your blog’s reputation.
3. Clicking and commenting on other links is also an important part of participating in a link party. Partially, it’s because it’s just nice and good form to help other bloggers out. But commenting is also another great way to build your SEO and build relationships. My advice on commenting: BE SINCERE. If you really don’t like a certain project, you don’t have to leave a comment saying it’s the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. Now of course, don’t leave mean comments. But be sincere and specific, and when possible, add to the conversation. This way, people know that you actually read their post, and that you are not just spamming every link possible to boost your SEO.
