Today I’m sharing another free printable gift box: a No. 2 Pencil Box. This box ends out being about 2 and a half inches wide and about 5 and a half inches tall. Because there are 6 flaps on the top, it takes a little longer to put together than some gift boxes, but you should be able to put one together in about 10 minutes. These pencil gift boxes would be a great way to wrap a present for a child, send a gift to a teacher, or even give favors at a party. I made a few extras for my kids, and they have just been playing with them for the past couple of days.
What you need:
1. White cardstock
2. A printer and a free template: Full Color, Partial Color, Blank
3. Elmer’s glue
4. (Optional: a black and Silver Sharpie)
5. Scissors & tape
6. (Optional: a ruler)
What you do:
1. Print your template onto plain white cardstock. I shared three versions of these pencil gift boxes: Full Color, Partial Color, and Blank. If you are using the full color version, skip to step 3. If you are using the partial color version, start by coloring in the pencil tips with a black Sharpie. Using a sharpie gives a darker black than the printed version.
2. Carefully color in the metal ring around the pencil with a silver Sharpie. The metallic effect is especially cool.
3. Cut out the template around the outside edges. Cut on the outside of the black lines – keeping as much black as you can without leaving any white.
4. Fold along the black lines that will be creased. DO fold the line that separates the pencil top from the yellow. DO NOT fold the lines between the yellow, silver, and pink. (Optional – you can use a ruler to get a straighter fold, or even score the lines before folding.) It’s important to be precise when cutting and folding.
5. Start by putting together the pencil tip of the gift box. I’ve used double sided tape in the past, but because of the small area you’re working with here, I found that Elmer’s glue worked best. Put a little glue all over each tab one at a time, and glue to the back side of the next triangle piece.
6. Hold the pieces together while they dry… about 10 seconds each. When I got to the last flap, I used a long marker to help put pressure on the inside so the flap would be secure.
7. If any white is showing through along the pencil’s point, you can touch it up with a black Sharpie. Then use glue to attach the long flap to connect the yellow pencil edges.
8. The box opens from the bottom of the eraser. Fold all of the tabs inside of the box, except for the larger one that says OPEN. Keep that tab on the outside of the box and secure it with removable Scotch tape (or something similar).
And if you’re a fan of adult coloring, you can print the blank template and color it in however you want. These pencil gift boxes also look really cute just sitting on your desk or as a decoration. It would even be fun to print out a few of them and make a 3D pencil garland.

I love your pencil. May I change it a little and write Je Suis Charlie on it? I would like to share it for free as you do, but with these words, very importants for us here in France today.
May I?
linesacross@gmail.com says
Normally I would say no, but that's a great idea! Go ahead! Just still include a link back to this post.
