One of the hardest parts of being a mom (for me at least) has been the way that the kids and their needs have crept into every aspect of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being a mom… so much more even than I had ever imagined I would. I feel like the day my first son Benjamin was born almost 5 years ago I started down this incredible adventure that has been the most fun of my life. Watching my kids go from tiny helpless babies to a talking, walking kids with opinions and ideas of their own has been thrilling.
However, as a mom (especially now as a mom of a 7 week old, a 3 year old, and a 4 year old) it’s so easy to lose yourself in your kids. Their needs and activities often take so much time that there isn’t any left for yourself. Plus, physically they are ALL OVER YOU and your things ALL THE TIME. Talk about claustrophobia. Everything I do around the house, my daughter Lyla is right there asking “what are you doing?” and “can I help?” As much as I love spending time with her, sometimes it’s important as a mom to find a little sanity by making time and space for yourself. (In this picture, Lyla photobombed my crafty photoshoot with her cuteness.)
One way and place that I’ve found time for myself is through blogging. Not only do I enjoy making fun things and sharing them with others, but I’ve also found a great community of other bloggers and friends who have so many of the same hobbies and interests that I do. I actually started my blog as a creative outlet (before I knew much of anything about creative blogs) 4 months after my daughter Lyla was born.
Another more simple everyday kind of way that I take a little time to myself is with some self-pampering. Whether I’m taking a bath while watching Hulu, or trying out a new hair tutorial I saw on Pinterest, just a little girly time like this can go a long way towards keeping me sane and grounded. I recently got the chance to try out a couple of new Tree Hut products. I was already a huge fan of Tree Hut products, and I especially loved the Mediterranean salt scrub and the Raspberry body lotion with SPF.
The Raspberry Macadamia Nut Daily Defense Cream is a great body lotion with SPF 20 to protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun. Especially here in FL even a quick trip to the grocery store in the summer involves a lot of UV rays. I love the subtle raspberry scent of the lotion and the quality light texture that absorbs into your skin easily. Because a lot of the UV protection comes from natural raspberry and macadamia nut oils, the lotion doesn’t feel or smell like typical sun block, and has other anti-aging properties.
The Fig & Olive Detoxifying Mediterranean Salt Scrub is one of my favorite bath products to date. I especially love the textured feel of the salt scrub and the soft healthy way my skin feels after using it. Not only is it a great exfoliator, but the activated charcoal helps remove toxins and impurities from your skin. This salt scrub also includes many beneficial natural oils such as fig extract, olive oil, evening primrose oil, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, macadamia seed oil, and orange oil. The dark thick texture of the salt scrub made me feel like I was giving myself a mud bath.
So if you (like me) need to make a little more time for yourself in your day to day life, pampering yourself with bath products is a quick and simple way. You can detox and exfoliate with the salt scrub and then protect and nourish with the body lotion and enjoy the whole process to boot. These products are available for purchase at ULTA stores. If you love Tree Hut (like me) you can follow along on social media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest.

Wonderful post, Rachel! Many mothers have a guilty conscience when taking time for themselves. But mothers deserve it so much!

I still can't get over that photo of Lyla. I know it was a photo bomb, but it is seriously stunning. And I'm glad you're taking some time (however brief) to take care of YOU. That's so important.
