Weddings are such a wonderful opportunity to get creative. (P.S. I wish I had Pinterest when I was planning my wedding!) I’ve collected 20 unique alternatives to a traditional guest book. The thing I love about these interactive guest books is that signing the guest book becomes a part of the entertainment of the evening. Plus, after the big day, you are left with a beautiful and one of a kind keepsake to help you remember your wedding and the people who were there to celebrate with you.
1. Paint and Canvas – This idea is so fun and original. You sketch out a pattern on a canvas and then divide it into squares. Let your guests take turns filling in the squares with paint. You never know how it will turn out 🙂 via The Bridal Blog
2. Wedding Shoes – Since many brides ditch their heels after the ceremony for some more comfortable dancing flats, it would be easy (and so sweet) to have your guests sign the bottoms of your shoes. via The Wedding Bee
3. Photo Booth with Chalkboard Sign – All you need is a fun backdrop, a few props, and a little chalkboard. – via Ruffled
4. Photo Booth Strips – I love the idea of having a photo booth at a wedding. Have your guests add their photos to your scrapbook where they can also write you a personal message. – via Delightfully Engaged
5. Wine Corks – Perfect for a vineyard wedding, these could be displayed in a bowl, or turned into one of many wine cork crafts. – via One Wed
6. Jenga Blocks – Perfect for game lovers. I could see this also turning into a cute anniversary tradition. Each year on your anniversary, play a game of Jenga and read aloud the blocks as you get them. – via Oh Lovely Day
7. Vintage Globe – This 3D guest book idea would be perfect for a wedding with a vintage or travel flair. – via Two Birds One Stone Wedding
8. Fingerprint Peacock – I love all of the fingerprint guest book ideas. This peacock is especially gorgeous. – via “I Do” It Yourself
9. Polaroid Photos – A fun activity and keepsake, the chalkboard sign is a great touch. – via Elizabeth Anne Designs
10. Wooden Oar for a Nautical Wedding – A beautiful idea, this oar would look gorgeous displayed in your home after the wedding. – via Bridal Musings
11. Vinyl Records – A fun idea for the music lover, this would be especially sweet if you used a record of your first dance song. – via Hi-Fi Weddings
12. Chalkboard Sign – Paint a large canvas or piece of wood with chalkboard paint, and decorate with romantic words. Then let your guests sign and draw with chalk pens. I especially love this as a photo backdrop. – via Pocketful of Dreams
13. Vintage Typewriter – This fun trend has my attention! Have a typewriter set up for your guests to type out messages for you – via Bridal Guide
14. Wishing Stones – Display in your garden, or a vase, these stones would make an especially sweet addition to an outdoor wedding – via The Bridal Style
15. Keepsake Football – It’s always important to include things that are special to the groom in the wedding, like this football used as a guest book… I know my husband would have loved this – via Love and Lavender
16. 3D Paper Balloons – A beautiful DIY wedding project… I could also picture hearts, flowers, butterflies, or geometric shapes – via Emmaline Bride
17. Ampersand Guest Book and Photo Prop – Have everyone sign this when they arrive, and use it as a photo prop for the bride & groom later in the evening – via Back 40 Life
18. Monogrammed Canvas – Whether you make one yourself, our buy one, this is modern idea with a classic look – via Koyal Wholesale
19. Monogrammed Wood Slice – A perfect touch to a rustic wedding – via The Wedding Bee
20. Quilt Squares – Have the guests sign squares of fabric, and turn them into a keepsake quilt after the wedding – via 100 Layer Cake

I love unconventional guest books. For our (very small) wedding we had scrapbook pages for the guests to write messages on and then put their picture with their message.

We had our invite and vows matted and had our guests sign that. In our first house, we had it above our dining room, but we just moved it to the hallway by our bedroom. You can see it at the end of this post: http://www.dejongdreamhouse.com/2013/01/heritage-gallery.html
