Motherhood lesson learned the oh so hard way: NEVER let your kids nap in swim diapers.
We are still visiting my mother up on Lookout Mountain, GA. It is a fun vacation because it is a nice break from the crazy summer heat in Orlando, and it feels like we are in a beautiful mountain resort.

Today we decided to take Benjamin and Lyla to the pool. We put them both into swim diapers and swim suits, got all of our bags packed and ready to go, and were about to head to the car. However, right before we left, Benjamin asked to get into his pack and play. Sometimes he likes to sit in there and read his books to Oo-Oo, so since it was still before noon, we thought that was fine. About two minutes later we walk in and he is sound asleep on his tummy. Like most toddlers, Jam will NOT sleep again even if he only gets a few minutes of sleep and he was obviously exhausted so we decided to let him sleep. Of course in the mean time Lyla got tired as well. Of course we should have changed her out of her swim diaper and swimsuit but I didn’t think about it and just wrapped her in her little blankie and put her into her pack and play.
About 30 minutes later Grant went in to get Lyla who had woken up early from her nap. The swim diaper had clearly not held in much (this realization makes me pretty uncomfortable now in public pools). Then soon after this Benjamin woke up with the same problem. I think I might has well have put them to nap in their birthday suits.
Since those were our last swim diapers we decided to put the pool off for another day and to go to the park instead. We went to Point Place Park which was the site of some Civil War battle. This beautiful little park also has a great view overlooking all of downtown Chattanooga and the Tennessee River.
Mr. Clingy is becoming Mr. Independent. He kept saying “no hand” “no up” “no stroller” and even “no Mommy.” He wanted to walk by himself everywhere.
“Ewww Gross” (He hates it when his hands get dirty) |
Since it was raining a little bit most of the time we were at the park, Lyla hung out in our stroller under the large canopy and watched the rest of us (and chewed on anything she could get her hands on).

Needless to say we will not be taking any more swim diaper naps. Since we are trying to save money and have some small and large swim diapers at home, we bought a pack of mediums (which technically should fit both Benjamin and Lyla) hoping that they will both fit in them. We will see.

Yep, swim diapers don't hold much! Not much at all and yes, I learned it the hard way too.
